Back then, it was much easier to sell, but much more difficult to buy (or at least much more risky, as you never knew when the bubble would burst).Also, the profits were likely much higher back then, but I believe the risk is much lower now.So, it all depends on your perspective...

I suppose from a risk perspective, I should take the loans, so if I default, I've still got my cash invested elsewhere.
