It would be the same case if you commented about your discovery of rockets with Elon Musk in the room:) On a serious note, the others on this thread are simply sharing depth on the subject and highlighting the fact that you COULD have done a cost seg study and it would likely have given you more tax benefit on top of what you received.

I've also asked about making use of the existing well/septic, although I anticipate on simply replacing same with the new construction.Our counties aren't very modern -- while tax info is available online, I still have to go to the courthouse to research any other liens/judgements against the current owner to see if there are hidden claims to the property.

I would think if you got title insurance this issue was already reviewed and taken care of or the company would not have issued a policy.If you have not bought the property yet and simply doing your due diligence and noticed this, you may want to ask the auction company if there is title insurance available.

If your cash to close is lower than that(with a VA loan it probably will be) you will simply get the excess refunded at closing.
