Trading the asset every 5-10 years means the entire investment group (GPs and LPs) can upgrade the quality of their portfolio (less headaches), and they get to reset their depreciation schedule for everyone (super important).Not saying holding long term is bad; I am saying it's not black and white.

We live in an area where there are black widows and other undesirable spiders, so we have a pest service come every single time someone moves out; however, if a unit is empty for a time, black widows move back in and must be exterminated before a tenant moves in, so we do an inspection of every unit before someone moves in to make sure it's ready to go.

This may limit your growth rate in the short term when the market is strong, but will save you when the market is soft.Generally engineers have sound personal finance since they have decent, steady, well paid jobs and not extravagant spending/tastes (except maybe when it comes to technology)Possible Disadvantages:You will tend to over analyze everything and want to understand every minute detail before taking any actionYou may want or expect things to be "black and white" and have trouble operating with ambiguity and in the "grey area".
