Trying to buy multi with a VA backed loan, I fully expected to be at the bottom of the totem pole, but I honestly didn't expect to be competing (futilely) with multiple cash offers on literally every deal I make an offer on right now.

If you are competitive then you'll compete. 

I usually find these at local banks in my area, but national players like Aloha Capital could be another source.

or broker through the bigger players that have LOC's with wall street..

I mean, who wouldn't want more guarantees and more access to capital if it could compete with the other interest rate options?

There are a lot of national players in this space that awe agents with the low dollar amount of % amount of their brokerage fees. 

I don't have a dog in the fight anymore as I am under a non-compete for management services but thought I would give you my input for what it is worth.
