If you have those couple of pieces in place, the rest will come as a result of the other members of the team.  

However, do you foresee the "gap" between the pieces to cause extensive damage overtime to the joists/below soffits etc...???

I don't know if you have access to any retirement accts or family/friends that may want a piece of the action as well.  

You can talk about upfront "cost" till your fingers / ears bleed and you are avoiding what is really important.
