Yes, Seattle's city wide zoning change affecting SFR zoning basically converts most lots into potential triplex sites: The main home, one or two ADUs, which can consist of two attached or one attached and one detached.

A lot of this depends on your loan pre-approval amount and the affordability of each of the neighboorhoods you're looking at, but as Seattle and surrounding areas are very friendly towards DADU's & ADU's it may be possible to get a home with multiple living spaces - so rather than a 6 bedroom house, you get a 3 bed 2 bath house with a 2 bed 1 bath ADU, with the potential to build another 2 bed 2 bath detached ADU in the future.

It is not built yet but I have a lot in Everett that allows for a single-family home and 2 Additional Dwelling Units (either attached to the SF home or detached, duplex style).

@Troy Smith you did not really ask for advice but I thought I would tell you what I would do if I was young and starting out with military benefits.I would house hack a detached duplex in the area you want to live (in your case San Diego) leveraging the VA loan.

The ADU/DADU units still have to be 'junior' to the main house (smaller in terms of sf, I think the size cap is ~1000sf) and there are rules around detached units as to their size and positioning on the lot.
