This indicates to me that there is a lot of fat that can trim, and while you can invest with no money down (read: other people's money), having a bit of your own makes life immeasurably easier. 

I know a permanent foundation is important in some states as far as Loaning dollars.

Check that they are still within your occupancy standards for the size of home, note their names and dates of birth, find out if they will be there permanent or part-time.

The question will be is this a permanent change or is it going to be like the auto industry boom and bust.

Well it happened....this house has been on market to long....the sign looks like a permanent fixture of the yard.......I cant see the problem...priced at market value and we lowered it 10% anyways....Inside is immaculate (owner is a clean fanatic)...Decor...ooohh and aaahhs coming forth...."

I would never recommend someone permanently remove money out of a tax advantaged account just to invest.
