Note that if you do keep the property, you will need to have a local agent for your tenants that is on the same island as the property.   

Personally, I think real estate values in Hawaii are going to dip a bit in the short term, but due to the location, scarcity of land and homes, the difficulty in building new homes in Hawaii, and international demand, I think owning real estate in Hawaii for the long term makes for a worthwhile investment.Which island do you own your property on?

I am currently working with some investors on the island who are using a HELOC to help with the down payment and the lender is requiring any property they buy to have previous rental history to prove they can make the money back and pay both lenders.
