The entire exterior needs to be re-done - paint, siding, box gutters, etc so that alone is going to cost me like $100k. it's a very expensive lesson learned.It appears that engaging a thoroughly reviewed general contractor to manage your project might be a beneficial choice.

All good advice above.Consider engaging your local municipality and sewage authority as an independent 3rd or 4th force in this situation.

When I get a couple of projects off my plate I'll be engaging more in it myself!

The only situation this is not true is if you are engaged in a long term project (e.g. 5 year project) and you are paid at the end of the project, then you may "recognize" some of the unpaid compensation as 2018's income based on % of completion. 

Be sure to be as active and engaging as possible.
