With only a few apartment/condos on the market between $80-$100k what remodel you invested you would probably not get back in return.It is a tough investment place, living in town is key to resale value!

Charles, You really don't need a general contractor, Find you a good licensed and insured remodeling contractor, treat him right and and pay him right, you will have a good reliable trustworthy person/company to build a relationship with and make lots of money...Zack

A few ideas off the top of my head:- Get a real guard dog- Get a fake guard dog (i.e. search for "Rex the Barking Dog")- Get an alarm- Or just put up alarm signs- Make friends with the neighbors and ask them to watch out for your house- Don't put items like fridges, stoves, etc (anything a thief would likely want) in the house until the very end of your remodel or you absolutely have to
