To answer your question, I would say you need +100 keys to achieve the economies of scale and feasibility to hire a property management company.  

I am an out of state investor so I will need to hire a great property management agency to care for the home.

Lots of the information online suggests that it is the easiest way to get started because you don't need that much capital, but look at successful RE Wholesalers they spend $50K+ plus a month on marketing and staff.
