Besides liability you are insuring the property itself for somewhere between the loan amount and the market value (some companies are more flexible than others on requiring a minimum per sq foot or % of their view of replacement cost) in order to make the lender whole and protect your equity in the event of a total loss.

This is more art than science but you could calculate what you need to have a 6-12 month emergency fund should the unexpected happen (job loss, economic crash, etc.) and keep that amount liquid or available.

In fact, comparing the cost of living in those 2 provinces, while food, fuel and taxes are considerably more expensive in NB than in Ontario, the rent paid and even cost of housing is what more or less balances it.And that said, while housing is cheaper in NB I find rents are generally so much lower that one does well there, as well as in most places in Canada, if a property pays for itself.

The contents inside the home were eerily untouched - food in the fridge (gross), clothes in the dressers, furniture, end tables, tools in the workshop, toys, shoes, etc.It took me and another guy a week to catalog everything and donate it all in the hopes I could perhaps write it off.
