That's it-- they'll talk you out of a terrible inspection report where the inspector even says pass, they'll give you every reason to not ask for extension, they'll get mad if you change your mind at almost at any point.

If the pure reason for moving is real estate costs then you are already in one of the best markets where you will get the biggest bank for your buck since you can use leverage and purchase a single family or condo with 3-5% down like @Brianna Billings has done and proven its possible...or you can look at multifamily options and purchase a duplex with FHA loan and put 3.5% down or put 5% down for a conventional loan and purchase a 3-4 unit property.

If that is also true, I think the risk you expose yourself to for $100/month simply isn't worth it.If your income were higher and/or you had a way to weather the proverbial storm (savings), it might be worth it just to get in the game.

The property taxes are reasonable and so the insurance (let's say $3000 for both or maybe a bit less)- Kansas (Lee Summit [MO] or Overland Park [KS]) are contenders as well where buying property is more affordable BUT property taxes and insurance, combined are $6K'ish, with better ranking schools.
