Unfortunately nowhere near close enough for them to afford a decent living situation in the valley.

In the <$300K range, I'd look at Taunton, Fall River and New Bedford.

We were even interested in buying in my old back yard (central valley of CA) but with rent control - it has got us holding a lot of cash in the bank.
