Since you don't have kids yet you could look into Jersey City, it's very easy to get into NYC, there are a lot of multi-families, and once things go back to normal there is a good food scene.

If you don't understand the presence of inflation today, look back to the Obama era and executive actions taken on how inflation is commutated in the US, the rules were changed basically making any "official" rate a worthless made-up fantasy number as all the factual factors that comprise of inflation index were removed, such as food.
