My basement smells - not a moldy smell but something else.

We weren't planning on pets but I understand "service animals" are under a different category.I'm not sure if fair housing laws vary from state to state but with regards to California…What is the correct legal verbiage to use in a phone call to say..A: We aren't Section 8 approvedB: No pets allowed.Interestingly enough, Craigslist flagged using "no pets" in the body of the text.

Do you smell it?

You can imagine what the place smelled like after 2 weeks of unattended cats.

Smelled a bit like gas so I shut off the water heater (was empty but switch was set to 'on' and the range.

I don't have a handy "DIY" bone in my body, but I have cash and I know a lot of people in the blue collar fields of construction, etc.

There was also a pipe leaking in the crawlspace which was noted on the inspection report which was to be fixed that leaked sewage and caused a smell in the unit above it.  

You sometimes just need to STOP and smell the roses otherwise major things will go unnoticed and you will make big mistakes.I had to bring new contractors on board that I never worked with before to start on all of the extras.
