I think you are making a good decision with the 9x14 Fiberglass as that approximate size is readily available and affordable.The drinkable pool water system (no chemicals and uses copper ionization, ultraviolet sanitation, and some sort of titanium grid bar which I don't fully understand) cost me $4,900 installed.

Do you really think there's a good argument for diving in and learning on the fly- especially in this ultra-competitive, yield starved, low-rate environment we are currently in? 

Basically you have to be ultra careful to never touch the money personally.$1 million in umbrella insurance will run about $500 a year which might be the best stop gap until you hit a lending wall and then I would call a lawyer to come up with the best strategy.
