Nick Sabat The Smart Home - R We Really That Outdated?
13 November 2016 | 9 replies
Originally the purpose was for sensors (humidity/moisture, temperature, electrical consumption, motion), but them we started to add control features (thermostat limits, electronic lock, etc), with the ability to delegate some access to the tenants. While it doesn't increase our rent, it does make looking after our student houses easier and the "coolness" factor does seem to help with word-of-mouth marketing.

Brandt Tingen what's the best way to protect a flat roof from heavy snow?
22 January 2016 | 11 replies
Good thing is that the duplex I am worried about most both tenants keep their thermostats at 90 degrees in the winter (thank god electricity and gas are separately metered) so my hope is that the high heat in the interior of the home travels the thermal bridge of the roof joists and aids in the melting of the snow on the roof... may be wishful thinking.

However, if the temperatures were cold enough that the heat pump wasn't able to keep up, the system automatically engages the heat strips to satisfy the users call for heat even when the thermostat isn't on "emergency heat".Additionally, the thermostats I install will engage the backup heat (resistance heat or gas) when the thermostat indicates a temperature difference greater than 2 degrees between the actual temperature and the set point temperature.
