I've been encouraged to look into putting my future properties in a Series LLC since I am located in VA.

This article was on the front page on finance.yahoo.com couple days ago.I don't think he holds any security licenses or financial advisory certification like the series 65, 6, 63 or CFP, but he is a computer science major who started a personal finance blog 10 years ago because he was bored.

If you get into Series LLCs, you may want to speak with an attorney in your state to see if there are any special requirements there, as several states have been considering whether Series LLCs need stricter name requirements.

We realize that house hacking is a good way to get started, but have struggled with leaving downtown as we like it so much.Due to a series of related events, we decided to that we should at least look at areas we like to frequent (Ohio City, Tremont and Detroit Shoreway)(these are neighborhoods the border downtown Cleveland for those not familiar.

Since you're in the learning phase & your long term goal is to own several properties then start reading up on Series LLCs (unique to Illinois & other states) along w/ Land Trusts.  

I believe the terminology is called a "Series LLC"
