Instead, you could easily use keyword alerts to pick up whatever a member might post about your targeted areas?

UD and set up the keyword alerts as that will help you get topics that interest you.

I'm still new to REI myself but what I can say is to listen to the BP podcasts, visit local REI meetings and setup some keyword alerts for your particular area.

I would suspect that the process is fairly straight forward, but this is a jurisdictional issue and what happens in mine may be 180 degrees different than yours.
