If they turned off some/all utilities (assuming they were at some point in the tenants name), AND there is nothing but trash left in the unit (no useable furniture, no current groceries, no clothes in closet, no shoes, no toothbrush in the bathroom or meds in the cabinet), check local law but that IS abandoned...not allegedly abandoned.

We also steer those people who don't have their own insurance relationship to a knowledgeable local rep who has cheap rates with a good insurer (State Farm) and will give us a heads-up if anything goes amiss, aside from just the notification that they've cancelled or non-renewed their policy.

STR tax loss - effect on 401k contributions from Depreciation

Example: if you claim REPS status or you use the STR active status to deduct a total of 100k in tax losses from your earned active regular work income from your job as a plumber contractor where you earned 100k (in net business income after business expenses etc)Such that your tax bill is zero, and you normally contribute to a solo 401k as employer would that prevent you from making any contributions?
