Prior to when the lease is up Section 8 should be sending you a form in the mail asking if there was any damage/rent owed on the unit.

I would add, make sure the agent quotes it with "Personal Injury coverage as part of the Liability"Many carriers now have endorsements for Service Line coverage (for damage to water, sewer, electrical lines coming to property) and for Equipment Breakdown coverage.

It came out to around $125 / month cash flow, not GREAT, but for a first property it's a base hit and gets me in the game.HOWEVER, here are the main issues that came up from the inspection that really concern me:Horizontal cracks in the poured concrete basement foundation on the back and left side of the house with what looks like attempts to patch it with stucco in the pastKnob and Tube wiring throughout the entire house (concerned about getting insurance)Galvanized piping for majority of water supply lines (low water pressure throughout house)Leaking roof from chimney (need to install cricket) and fix upstairs unit wallsOne of the furnace flues is completely deteriorated and needs replaced, currently releasing some levels of carbon monoxide into basementOne of the water heaters is from 1992Some water intrusion damage in main electrical panel and one of the breaker panel is a Pushmatic styleThese are what I conclude as the big ticket items.

My failed expectation of safety is rooted in the frequent early morning visitors often get the wrong house on the first try, theoretically allowing for a dope head to walk into my house at any hour, the fact that the son is still at large and we could be raided by the State Police again at any moment, and the fact that the secluded nature of the area makes our side of the property easily surveilled by the other side - which is not optimal when my wife is home alone.My landlord is now seeking damages for the lost rent and has served me with an eviction notice.
