@Jay HinrichsYep, it's a promise to pay and has little to do with settlement, default on the deal, pay the note off or you could be sued.Going a step further, buy the place with 100% seller financing, close the deal, title goes to you as a buyer, then, an hour later, sell it for cash, payoff the note, there is no sneaky settlement statement trying to hid fees, perfectly legal and ethical with an informed seller.
