The question is does it make sense to spend the money out of pocket now to replace the water heater before it actually breaks (for instance, if it does break suddenly, the water would leak all over the carpet upstairs).

@Paul Zofsak They are really helpful if you plan on spending a lot of money in the store.Two biggest things: 1) in-store scratch and dent on appliances2) they will check their available markdowns to see if they can give you a better price on things like flooring, fixtures, and tools (really anything in the store, but I wanted to call out things that I thought might be particularly relevant to you).
