We have been very succesful in building baskets for early retirement.

I guess I could make a justification as to being "retired" as to being institutionally connected or accredited, I think it would be best leaving that determination up to others.

We are retired now civil service working on a Joint base just outside DC.

And if there are enough properties being worked on, it might be worthwhile to share the cost of a security person/off-duty or retired cop to make rounds all night, in addition to alarm systems in each house.

Retirement is no good if you have to live a life of PB&J till you get there.Cash in your money and rebuild.

Those stagnant days are long gone and it scares me to no end to think that I would have to punch a clock until retirement time.  

While I agree with @J Scott in principle, not everyone has the retired father-in-law or uncle that is looking to do better than an US Treasury Bond in retirement, and thus, can't always do business with people they know.

I am in the Navy and looking to retire in the next 4 years and I am setting my sights on real estate investing as an avenue to build passive income to support retirement. 

Details: I'm currently 30 (no kids) and my wife and I plan on retiring with a decent "pension" at 42.  

Investing in RE was my idea after we retired.
