I can't fault you for not surveying the property during your escrow period because as I state is extremely rare in a urban environment in our area to do that.. so the realtor is not going to recommend it when I bet they have rarely if ever done it in the past..

I believe the lending environment is much worse than in the states, so you may not pay taxes, but if you earn 20% less because of higher interest payments (which you can't deduct against anything if you're not paying taxes) then it's pretty much a wash.The house we stayed at also required a lot of security because apparently there are lots of people on the island that prey on tourists.
