Then I would figure out how you can get around high net worth individuals to start networking and get them to know, like and trust you.

If you don't trust the vendor you hired with the code to the home then why did you hire the vendor in the first place?

Trust me after 15 years of dealing with tenants, this is the best approach.

Do I just trust the GC to source the vendors to get it on time?

I would not trust anyone else to furnish it or manage a rehab.  

Too many potential issues to make it worthwhile.You could try to hire an agent just to get access to their handyman - understanding you may not want to trust them with any screening.
