Yes, the owners should be paying, otherwise you have someone else's junk sitting on your property (which is somewhere between littering and squatting).IF possible, I'd recommend serving the non-paying owners notice ASAP that lot rent will be established on X date (some day near enough in the future to be prudent, but far enough out to give them real notice and allow them to arrange a haul-off if needed).

Also give required (here it's 24 hours) notice and inspect/show the place as needed (I'd try to arrange it when you know they won't be home).

@Chu L.It looks like your 2020 return will be more complex than in normal years.Living in two different states may require the filing of part-year returns in each state.Hopefully acquiring rental properties increases to your cash-flow and wealth but does not increase your tax burden.Regarding gifts from overseas - It depends on the arrangement that you have.
