You have many  options with that property you have, do not ever assume anything (like not doing the kitchen/bath and going STR).You need to figure out what you are comfortable with and what will make you $$.

Are there more affordable options that are also good?

I was willing to pay but there isn't an option.

The land is currently  pretty much all. jungle would a 2 bedroom home be the best option or would you guys try to build 1 bedrooms 

Another option is to have the building tested, and if that is found you could get a quote for remediation.

The type of property you choose—whether it's a project you can rehab or a ready-to-move-in option—will also influence the type of financing you'll need.

I own a house now as primarily residence, we are a family of four so that option didn’t cross my mind.
