In California the max deposit that the contractor can ask for is 10%.For me, it's most common for us to fund work on 30/30/30 schedule. 30% at the beginning to order supplies, 30% at a midpoint, and 30% after final walkthrough.As far as who pays who and when, it depends on your lender and scope of work.
