If you FIL's property is worth say 1M, there could easily be a couple hundred grand in taxes due upon sale. 

Has over 250k on it now and hums like new.If I want an old car my brother owns a used car lot for over 20 years and I can pretty much get whatever I want for way below market.

Which costs 5-15 grand.

I know the feeling .... spent over 15 grand and never made a dime off what they were teaching in that program of how to sell online stuff.

That said, keep in mind that you are looking at the grand total.

They'll cave pretty quick over a few grand on something like that since it costs them more to defend against it and they may lose even if they're legally right if you get a sympathetic jury.I HATE dealing with the city, sounds like they are like one around here, working against you instead of with you. 

For example, my bro is in HVAC, so we cut that price in half by using him, saves us at least 3 grand there (plus we order the unit through a modular home plant, and get the unit for about 500 dollars cheaper than us going directly to the wholesaler).
