I don't want to use wood and try to stain them to match for the same reasons I don't want to use hardwood throughout - - potential damage from tenants.I have two concerns with this idea.

I think the wood adds a nice richness, and I'm personally against painting wood unless it's meant to be painted or damaged or plain hideous.
