I had to refinish the floors, paint all the walls and ceiling (due mask the smell), replace doors that have been scratched/clawed at, and more.

Letting that go will only cause more damage to your property every time it rains (wood rot, mold, damage to pain/walls, etc).The windows are a high priority item that you can wait and save up for, hopefully in less than a year.

This way the tenants aren't putting unnecessary holes in my walls.

I have a $150 wall mount faucet in my vintage kitchen that I've replaced 3 times in the last 12 years.  

One of them is a 3 unit but it isn't a triplex, so there are no separate, walled off sections like the typical MFR.  

Or have your electrician remove all anchor points from their wall so they can't simply re-attach it.  

I imagine thats brutal on the floors, walls, door, etc., no?

Well apparently everything, both buildings had been gutted and all the copper taken and apparently it was too much trouble to walk out of one unit and go the next, so they tunneled through the walls between units.

Currently I've run out of wall and bookshelf space.
