You should make a conscientious effort to be more visible at your job sites. 

Would I be taxed on that money if I sold the shares and put it into real estate that same year?

Met with the home inspector, contractors, and shared my expertise and resources for the renovations.

They are very picky on sites and slow to respond and can take 6 months to 1 year or more.
