This is a good lesson to learn but at the end of the day all profits all deposits and all financial journey in every day with green in your bank account focus on the bigger picture.

Three weeks later the entire project was completed and ready for the pictures to be taken.

I'd suggest taking pictures so you have evidence of the current condition around the time you are buying it.I personally don't run background checks on inherited tenants. 

I also consider myself pretty solid at customer service and talking to people, so maybe I can help you out there as well.

I did not abuse this.. but we did have a customer service rep that handled our account and she would do a date down on the computer verbally to me.. 

If not you could contact the listing agent of the property (NOT the pictures next to the contact section on Zillow - those are "premier agents", i.e. people who pay Zillow to put their contact info in front of you). 

Take printed pictures to document the condition of the property before and after.
