I'm sure there will be hurricane straps required. your also gonna need to assess and check with building to make sure the first floors walls can carry the new 2nd floor. you may need to add some structural to carry the load. your taking what was essentially a finished attic on the Cape and adding the weight of the whole 2nd floor. also as someone else said earlier think about how it's going to look from the outisde. the first floor wall is gonna be pretty tall.

@Bryan Cavellier you can make a rental too nice to the point where you don’t make any money because it doesn’t fit the area and therefore no body will rent it from you.
