Having them there allows them to see the type of person I am, which all goes back to people knowing, liking, and trusting me. 

I think that's right, but I don't know if there are other types of properties (aside from the really distressed ones that might be worth inquiring about) where this strategy is used.

If you have experience managing the property type you are interested in, you have something to offer the "partnership".

Depending on what type of investing you are looking to do, I think you should expand your search outside of Charlotte proper.  

Has the surveyor or permit specialist given you any insight on types of ownership or requirements you'll need to get your shortplats done?
