Around here you're often able to build breakaway walls to enclose the bottom as utility/storage/laundry areas which further saves space from needing a garage. 

We keep 4 propane bottles on property, 1 hooked up, 1 spare nearby for guests and 2 in my storage shed for the cleaners to rotate.

@Ryan Vienneau I was thinking about charging for the storage space, something that would have normally been included to make up for the security deposit.

In Florida, my son had to get a permit to put in a fence, put in a tin prefab carport, change out an HVAC unit, have a prefab storage building which we dragged over from the neighbor's house, etc.Here in rural Georgia, there's lots of things that are "supposed" to be permitted but rarely are.

You could do a house hack plus what I like to call "house hustles" such as leasing out space on the Neighbor storage app or leasing out your pool if you have one on the Swimply app.
