Many personal umbrella policies have "business pursuit" exclusions, so don't depend on one to cover liability of/for your invesment locations, unless the agent/adviser has provided one of the few that actually do provide such protection.

If the crowdfund investment is only going to yield you $1000 or less in profits, then the extra cost is worth noting.It would be great if crowdfund sites advise on each of their deals how are structured taxwise, i.e. whther they will file composite returns on behalf of the non-residents.
