We had it on a Heloc for 3 months, then did a cash out refi- This thing was TOTALLY redone and needed more love this past 12 month- Can I take a $15k loss on this due to the fact that I have easily spent over 100 hours this past year running it, staying at the actual cabin, paperwork, book keeping, purchasing items, etc (BTW, this would not include travel)- I have those miles listed out separately.- If so, would this be a deduction from my wages that I have earned in 2023/Thanks in advance- Janis 

@Scott Trench thank you for your response on this post, I think it provides a lot of great points.I grew up in California and there is a lot I love about the state but I'm terrified to own real estate there.

And I would only be able to afford SFH in Bay Point, Pittsburg, Antioch, and Brentwood.Would love to hear your thoughts, advice for a newbie investor, and any pointers on where I should head.

@Jonathan Rivera I typically buy properties that could at least at some point use some love to get them to their best potential.

The buyer would probably love it if I were to move out right away.
