Im not sure about your area but where I am you have to also make sure the zoning of the neighborhood allows multi family properties.   

Just be sure you don't do something that voids your title insurance. 

Just make sure you build a good, solid, and competent local team in the area you choose to invest in.

Not sure I'm nailing the analysis.My questions: are there still cash-flowing B-class properties to be had in areas like Pleasant Ridge, Norwood, Walnut Hills?

I'm not sure what you need exactly, but know many bridge lenders and what is and is not financeable if you'd like to set up a call.
