You're a Football Coach, you know how to teach kids "The Fundamentals"...Make them put $20 in the school safe in an envelope as an escrow to be able to join, if they drop out they lose the money....Cut grass for the money if they have to....a broke man cannot invest..They need to learn that lesson too.Good Luck!

The only thing I would add is that if taxpayers would like to avoid underpayment penalties, they should pay in the "safe harbor" amount every year, either via withholding or quarterly estimated payments.

Be safe and don't work ahead of your competence levelIf you know what it would cost you to buy material to do something and you know what it would take you time wise, you can work backwards into a contractor's bid and figure out the equivalent hourly rate you are paying, which is a great place to start working a bid down.
