I'd guess rents went up because I paid more every year to rent similar houses during college. 

When I was issued a development permit, for the basement suite, they also provided me with a legal separate address from the main unit.

The renters, all young college students, rented a 5 bedroom back house. 2 short weeks into a 12 month agreement, they decide to move out.

So I maybe had $11000 into that cold box.I changed it out for another brand that sort of fit but the dog didn't like to sleep near it as well, maybe the kids were in college, and less people opened the door to give her treats.  

Hey all! First time posting here and just starting to get interested in Real Estate. A big question I've been kicking around in my head as I think about to begin investing in real estate is how to handle living in NYC...

They should be able to tell you if it can be done and if so, what paperwork, permits and various costs would be.

I have worked with the City of Tampa planning and building dept to get plans approved and permits expedited and ran the construction site myself.

BW College is over there so there is ample opportunity for student housing.

Permits and spending too much time at property doing work myself.
