I have to admit I am a little skeptical, but meeting others on here that are attending is encouraging.

I attended a FIBI event and talked to an experienced investor about my idea of starting out with a duplex where I can live in one unit and rent the others.

I have attended a portion of the county auctions in April and May to see what it entails/ & feel less intimidated--read BPs wonderful forums when possible.

If you do a search on Meetup, you'll find a few more.As you are getting to know the REI community, I suggest you attend as many as you can and get to know as many people as you can.
