I suspect that people avoid hoarder houses partially because so much is hidden that you really can't know a lot of what you're getting into until it's cleaned out, but also, many of those places are downright hazardous to people's health.

The county may have this for free on the Web now, but for a long time, their land records were subscription-access only; realtors and banks would subscribe, but the only free option for normal humans was the library.

To me, it's just human nature for folks to rebel when faced with the possibility that we may need to learn something, but we feel we "know it all" or know enough to not need anyone else's success story to rub in our own faces that in our lives which has been less than we'd hoped for or expected.I'm sure you've seen this cycle somewhere before: anger, denial, depression, acceptance.
