HelloI have a house that i want to rent but one twist - it is 2100 sq feet with 500 sq feet as self-contained mother-in-law unit attached to the house for the most part, separated only by  wall that lines up with kitchen and living room of the main house.

The standard caution.....you are improving a property you don’t own....the owner could get any kinds of liens/judgments that could attach to the property, depending on state laws and whether or not your land contract is recorded.
