To the ones that failed to recognize that message are the ones I feel are unable to see outside the realm of modern day business and at best will succeed as mediocre entrepreneurs.

Perhaps, more than anything, I'm looking for books and resources chronicling the history of Craftsman homes or showcasing modern restorations.

This is not an exact science because you can never know 100% of what is wrong with the property nor is the calculator spot on but it will certainly get you in the ballpark. 

Until you have the whole process down to a science, using your own money is the safest way to go.
