I'm not advocating that no one should ever need help, but there have been long standing issues with the way our country's fiscal policy and management has been allowed to occur, for decades. 

From a life stand point it's not really that far away, I am also 40 years old, and life is going incredibly fast. 

In my situation I had standing water in my crawl space that did not drain and it resulted in mold growth.

When there are a lot of vacation properties for renters to choose from and there's more supply than demand, you have only two ways to make money... stand out because you're the cheapest or stand out because you're the best.

So an owner who has expressly or implicitly "abandoned" RE has no standing to complain about what another does with it.   

How much do you stand to gain upon selling?

Unfortunately, this is a pretty ugly deal as it currently stands. 

I had to listen to this very large man verbally attack me with his crazy "old lady" egging him on the whole time while I was standing there with a pen and a piece of paper and a wad of cash.
