I suggest you also consider other options for alternative investments such as notes, etc. - you can do that with self-directed IRA or 401k.The bottom line is that Solo 401k is great tax-sheltering vehicle:It allows you to put good portion of your self-employment income into retirement plan and shelter it from taxes.All gains/profits/income from investments held in your 401k are also tax-deferred (or it can be tax-free if you use Roth Solo 401k feature).
