I've never heard of an employer 401(k) plan that allows participants to invest in private placements.I can have a self-directed 401(k) and I can vest investments in different LLCs that the 401(k) trust establishes, for the convenience of the trustee (me).

My situation is limited cash, sizeable retirement accounts (for my age), and wanting to minimize having to touch retirement accounts (ie, backing out Roth contributions, taking a 401(k) loan, etc.).

I know them well enough to know they have several hundred K in CDs as the 'safe portion' of their portfolioA business associate who I dealt with when setting up things for my SDIRA.
